I, Mentat
Brain Murmurs is now developing applications based on Mentat for OS X and the Apple iPhone.
Well, the time has finally come: I started working on Apple-specific versions of Mentat over the Christmas holiday. Considering the glut of GTD applications that have hit the market an era of Things, Omni Focus, Basecamp, and Remember the Milk, this probably doesn’t seem like too big of a deal.
But Mentat definitely brings a few good things to the table that the others do not, including
- collaboration tools
- mobile interfaces
- ubiquitous capture
I have to say that so far, compared to my experiences working with Visual Studio, this has been completely awesome.
The codebase has been split into two parts: a mentat-specific framework and an OS X application that leverages it. The framework will be used for the iPhone native application I’ll be developing later on this month.
In a major departure from some of our previous Mentat apps, Mentat.app and the Mentat for the iPhone will heavily modified to provide offline support. Both applications will still make use of the Mentat service, but in more of a synchronization service capacity, similar to .mac.
Once these changes have been formalized they will also be folded back into Mentat for the BlackBerry as well.
