Pining For NeXT

I have started to seriously consider buying an old NeXT Cube, even though they are even slower than our ailing SGI O2 (which runs at a whopping 180 MHz). The original NeXT machine ran at 25 MHz. DAMN.

I’m pretty stunned that things have moved along so far, and am trying to figure out what the standard PC offering was at the time. In 1992 I bought myself a 25 MHz PC, but by the next year Intel had started to play around with clock multipliers and my housemate Brian had gotten himself a 50 MHz 486 machine.

I could probably pick up an old NeXT Cube with a licensed version of Mathematica for about $500 on ebay.

Ponder, ponder.
