Windows Vista…Oy Vey

The beta for Windows Vista has been released today and I am surprised at my lack of interest in it. After ten years of anticipating new releases of Windows things have just become fairly predictable:

* There will be a few new features, which will be rather cumbersomely implemented.

Transparency, for instance, has been supported on Linux for several years and has been on OS X since it was first released.

* The requirements for the system will go up by an order of magnitude
* It won’t work as well as OS X
* It will get installed on 90% of the PCs in the world within six months
* It will have yawning, huge security holes that will result in businesses losing millions of dollars in revenue.
* Microsoft will get away with it.

For some reason, an expression an acquaintance of mine said to me one time comes to mind.

“No amount of syrup is going to turn crap into pancakes”
